Sisters we need to talk..

About payments!

govt payments

Taking on the responsibility of a family from another country can be daunting to say the least, and we must remember that we are doing this to help other sisters who have nowhere else to go, however, this must not bring with it a financial burden you can not manage. Today we will talk about payments from the Govt.

In our series of “Sisters lets talk about…” we covered the payments made by the UK Govt. £350 monthly ‘thank you’ payment. We have highlighted some of the points raised in this article, if you want to read more, sign up and join our Facebook community group

payment wait times
Waiting time by council for payments

Delay

  • Shortest wait 3 weeks
  • Longest wait 16 and counting..
  • Average wait 6 weeks

reasons

  • 90% due to DBS not being in place
  • 2 due to missing paperwork
  • 1 Guests returned to Ukraine

It became apparent very quickly that the majority of councils are trying to deal with the payments in a timely manner, based on when your guests arrive. By far, the majority of delays in payments are due to the length of time taken to process dbs checks and get the paperwork to the council, though some are obviously under pressure due to amount of requests, the average time for sponsors to receive payments seems to be 6 weeks, some councils process the requests at the end of each month, with payments being sent the beginning of the next month, but not knowing the cutoff date makes it difficult to guess, so we would advise that you start requesting updates at week 5 or 6 of your request

Councils mentioned in our thread:

Port Talbot, Reading, West Northamptonshire, Harrowm Kirklees, Calderdale, Redcar, South Cambridge, Lichfield, Rochdale, East Hants., Tameside, Worcester, Swansea, Wiltshire, Forest of Dean, Essex, Brighton & Hove, Doncaster, Warrington, Southwark, Bromsgrove, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Wyre Forest, Kent, Camarthenshire, Stockport, Shropshire, Northumberland, Kent, Torbay, Lincolnshire, Dorset, Devon, Tewkesbury
Thats 30+ areas of the country, giving a good cross reference of what to expect. We found that the overall majority recieved the first payment at 4 weeks, while some (4) where waiting 10 weeks or more with the with the longest being Leicestershire at 16 weeks.
